After losing in game 5 of the 2008 MABL finals, the promising Boston A’s took the field in 2009 to earn the right to compete for the title that had eluded them just months before. However, their bid to return to the playoffs ended early as the A’s fell twice to the upstart Orioles during the last weekend of the 2009 season.  The Boston Athletics look to the same core that brought them to the finals in 2008 and the contributions of a few new faces to get back to the finals in 2010.

The A’s would like to welcome Jamie Aldoupolis, Brian Colella and JT Mooney to the team. Many might recognize Jamie as the steady pitcher and utility man for the Mariners. We are glad to have him contribute in all areas of the game. Outfielder Brian Colella took a brief hiatus from baseball after a successful high school career in Hopkinton, and is back to help the A’s campaign in 2010.   And finally, JT Mooney joins the lineup after his career at Bridgewater State. We look forward to his contributions at the plate and in the outfield as well.

In addition to the newcomers, the A’s return the core of the past few seasons that helped bring them to the playoffs in 2008. Returning players include 2009 all stars OF Pat Vetter, 3B Jay Lamoureux, OF Santi Mazzeo, SS Alan Donaruma and 1B Nick Tapper. Steady arms in Kyle Breidenstine, Talal Saleh and Kevin McGowan look to lead the pitching staff and handle the bulk of the starts in 2010.

After several seasons as manager, Kevin McGowan has handed the team over to Nick Tapper for 2010. Kevin, thanks for your time and contributions to the team and to the MABL.

The warm weather is slowly creeping into the New England area, serving as a harbinger of the great baseball to be played in the greater Boston area. Best of luck to all MABL teams in 2010.
