After a disappointing wild card loss to end the 2019 season, the Senators are ready to make a deep run in 2020. Our first three years in existence have seen a moderate amount of success, resulting in a franchise record of 40-26 and three straight playoff appearances. With a strong returning core and some key additions, we look to build on that success and take the next step in 2020.

Two-time Cy Young award winner, Jason Erhardt, will continue to anchor the Senator pitching staff. Erhardt is the Senators’ career leader in wins, innings, and strikeouts. Christian Nashawaty and Jake Marchesseault each return, looking to build on a successful 2019 campaign. Nashawaty earned his first All-Star game selection in 2019 and is the Senators’ career leader in ERA and saves. Marchesseault, in his first season with the Senators, pitched to a 2-1 record with a 2.58 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 21.2 innings. He also contributed a .320 batting average in limited at-bats during the 2019 season. Complimenting this trio of returning pitchers is the addition of Troy Ortiz who previously pitched at Johnson and Wales University.

On the offensive side of the ball, the lineup will continue to be anchored by last year’s All-Stars, Chris Holland (.459/.500/.607, 9 2B, 7 RBI), Adam Simpson (.351/.457/.596, 6 2B, 2 HR, 19 RBI), and Zach Simpson (.304/.360/.406, 2 HR, 10 RBI). The lineup will also look for contributions from; second year catcher, Cam Deegan, who produced a .457 average and 10 RBI in just 12 games played last year; veteran shortstop/utility man and career .319 hitter, Pat Dempsey, who is looking to have a bounce back year after struggling at the plate in 2019; corner infielder, Tom Nashawaty, coming off a season where he set career highs in average, doubles, and OPS; and outfielder, Jon Lawlor, the no-brainer choice for the team’s most improved player last year. Chris Keenan, the primary second baseman on the 2019 roster, returns after hitting .275 and playing solid defense in his first year with the team. Mike Sjolin and Hunter Dempsey will both have expanded roles on the offense after a limited number of at-bats last year. Hunter joined the team halfway through the season and was a much needed spark to the offense. Sjolin is a converted pitcher who can more than handle the bat and provides depth as a utility type player on defense. Chris Collyer also returns for his second year full time with the team, providing depth at first base and the ability to eat innings on the mound.

We have made a few key additions going into the 2020 season as well. Outfielder Billy Watts joins the team after spending the last few years playing Wide Receiver for the Bridgewater State football team. Pitcher/middle infielder Troy Ortiz joins the team after previously pitching at Johnson and Wales University. Former Norfolk County Mariner Mike Szymanski joins the team to add a much needed upgrade up the middle on defense and speed on the basepaths. We are looking to all three new players to make key contributions to our solid returning roster of CABL veteran players.
